Gaius Julius Caesar Octavios, is know in history as the first of the Roman emperors, Agustus, who lived from 63 B.C-14 C.E. His wife was Livia. There is a statue of Augustus that was used as early propaganda, and Hughes describes it as not a great piece of art, but competent and memorable. It is a marble copy of a most likely bronze portrait. He is wearing military dress, and shown to be giving a speech or to his army. There are hints that Agustus was related to Venus, so there are theories that he was a god. This theory was put in his statue where a small figurine is placed next to his leg, which is supposed to be the Love God, Eros.
This piece is Agustus of Prima PortaI and Hughes says we are inclined to believe it is a unique piece, but that it is not. He also says it is very unlikely that it is the 'original'
Agustus was related to Julius Caesar, he admired his uncles military and political style, and avenged his death shortly after he was murdered. Agustus worked to reinvent the city, by renovating the roads and infrastructure to make it better. He was a a large part of Rome's production to be the city it is today. He ruled Rome for almost 45 years and is still widely known by either name Agustus or Octavian.

I can see why Hughes says it's not something to get too excited about.
