The Art of Travel

“Those responsible for the brochure had darkly intuited how easily their audience might be turned into prey by photographs whose power insulted the intelligence and contravened any notions of free will: overexposed photographs of palm trees, clear skies and white beaches… The longing provoked by the brochure was an example; of how projects might be influenced by the simplest and most unexamined images of happiness.”

As humans we have this innate desire to search for happiness in another location separate to where we are. We expect that each places we travel to are going to be obscene with beautiful imagery and sights unimaginable. We tend to not look at these scenarios practically, we get caught up in the never ending stories of travel and develop an over accentuated vision of ourselves in these places. What we don’t anticipate for is human reaction to life while away. We have this notion that going away will solve all problems and that nothing will be troublesome while overseas. We tend to forget that while we go to these places, we still carry our burdens and our identities. We can never truly get away but we are given the beautiful opportunity to explore these places and mute our internal muse for a short while. I hope to find a serene balance between my inner demons and my appreciation for the world around me while I travel in a few short weeks.
